![]() ![]() The app offers multiple subscription tiers, with different features at each level, which you can read more about in the app’s Settings. Version 5.0 was a big leap forward, but Brian Mueller has continued to refine the app and add new and interesting options that have taken the app’s personalization to a new level that I love.ĬARROT Weather is available as a free update on the App Store. It’s remarkable how much customization is now available in CARROT Weather. I’ve also simplified my tab bar to mirror how I use the app, which makes one-handed use easier. I’ve also added Pollen and Air Quality sections to my weather layout, which will be handy as the weather warms up and I head outside more. With the latest update, I’ve added daily forecasts to my Locations List for the cities where my kids live. ![]() The radar feature also reports hail and debris from tornados that are detected, which I’d prefer not to see any time soon, but I’m also glad it’s available. However, the good people of Wisconsin and Michigan are enjoying a bright pink wintery mix this morning, so you can see what that looks like in the screenshot above. Fortunately, we’re nearing the end of that kind of weather in the Chicago area, so I haven’t seen a wintery mix in CARROT’s weather map here. Maps now show when a wintery mix of precipitation is falling. The maps and radar functionality have also been expanded. For a while now I have been bouncing back and forth between using Dark Sky and Hello Weather as my tools of choice. When the weather is bad in Chicago, I look north to feel better. Then a few months ago, after seeing some new features (at the time) of CARROT Weather, I decided to give the quirky app a try. The thing about CARROT is that the entire aesthetic and tone of the app makes it seem like it’s not a serious app. However, I’ve found that it is perhaps the best weather app. The make it or break it for any weather app is the information density of the app - a good weather app can convey what’s going in a very detailed manner, very quickly. Whether you are looking at the cute art, the top information, the hourly detail view, or the week overview - CARROT nails information density. What is CARROT Weather From Developer Grailr, CARROT Weather is a weather and forecasting app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch that shows you your current weather conditions, as well as highly-detailed forecasts for the next seven days. To be clear, there’s nothing CARROT has which other apps don’t have, but the presentation of that same data is vastly better than any other app. Why? Because that’s how we think about the day, not vertically. Weeks too, because that’s how we think about a week. Its currently £2.29 in the UK and AU3. We are moving through time, not down time - horizontal logically conveys this better.Īnd that’s the thing - the design itself is logical, but the weird nonsensical cartoons are what seals the deal. Carrot Weather is a universal iOS app that is currently selling at a discount of 2.99, down from its regular 3.99 price. They make sense, but only if you just take the mood from them. Honestly I don’t know what the fuck is going on in most of these little cartoons - but they do convey the basics of the weather to me. You take one glance at those for just a moment, and you have a pretty good idea of what is going on - in a way which you can’t quite describe, but that you know. Oh, it’s nice, or it’s cold, or it’s nasty. It’s instant and that’s hugely important. The release comes with a solid list of improvements and changes including totally rebuilt weather. So while, like I did, it is easy to dismiss the app as a gimmick - it really fucking works. Carrot Weather 5.5 for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch is available now from the App Store. The other thing CARROT nails is that different people care about different things - and that’s both personal and geographic. ![]()
